I hope you had a nice summer in your part of the world. I spent two months home in Shetland and just got back to Maine a couple of weeks ago.
I wanted to tell you a cool story from my trip about how I was guided to the perfect meal while I was in Edinburgh, waiting for my flight to the States.
I had just spent 14 hours on the overnight ferry from Shetland to the mainland, then another three hours on the train to Edinburgh, and I was feeling like I needed a pick-me-up.
It was lunchtime when I got off the train at Waverley Station. I “put out a call” to my Team to guide me to the perfect pick-me-up food to nourish my body as I still had a long time to wait until my 7.5-hour flight.
Standing at the station exit, I used a technique I share with my clients called the body pendulum, where you ask your body yes/no questions as it sways forward or backwards giving you the answers. It’s really cool!
So, with the intention of finding the perfect meal for my body, I asked: “Left?” My body swayed backwards, meaning no. “Right?” I asked instead. My body swayed forwards, meaning yes.
I turned right and walked to Princes Street, where I then had three options: Left, right, or straight ahead. My body swayed forward when I asked: “straight ahead.”
And so I continued, asking for directions at each intersection. After 10 minutes, in unfamiliar surroundings and dragging my suitcase behind me, it started to feel like a bad idea. Why, oh, why hadn’t I just paid for a sandwich at the train station?
But then, as I came to the end of a narrow cobbled street, I saw something promising: a sign that said “Hendersons.” Somewhere in the recesses of my mind, I remembered there was a vegetarian cafe I’d meant to try the next time I was in Edinburgh, and lo and behold there it was, in front of me!
I checked my body pendulum to make sure I was at my destination. I swayed backwards, meaning NO!
“No? Is this not it?” I started swearing to myself. “Stupid, stupid body pendulum. Where on earth are you leading me?”
I was not in the best mood. I was tired and hungry and feeling like a total idiot … until I saw another sign around the corner from the first. This one said: Henderson’s Vegan Restaurant.
Sure enough, the vegan restaurant was my destination. As quickly as I had cursed just seconds earlier, I was now congratulating myself, my Team, and my body pendulum for finding this tiny restaurant in the backstreets of Edinburgh. Ha!
Of course, the food was amazing! I had a trio of vegan tapas, which nourished my body and tasted great, too. I recommend it if you are in the area, especially the cured carrot bruschetta.
Let me know if you go AND, more importantly, if you try the body pendulum technique for yourself. It’s not only for asking directions 😉
