It was Florence Scovel Shinn, the late metaphysical writer, who first taught me to view life problems metaphorically.
For example, she taught that if you have been trying to manifest something for a long time, and it still hadn’t come to pass, the lack of completion could reflect the lack of completion in another area of your life. She suggested making a point of finishing something that had been left unfinished as a symbolic act of completion. As within, so without: The the outer world is a reflection of the inner world.
I decided to try her metaphorical suggestion for myself. In my late 20s, after shuttering my home-based Lomi Lomi and Reiki practice after a scary situation with a male client, I found myself without an income and living off credit cards. It seemed that none of my manifesting tools worked, so I decided to finish something as my symbolic act of completion.
I had plenty of unfinished projects to choose from. I had a habit of leaving things undone, such as half-read books, home study courses, taxes, and work projects. I decided to pick just one thing, a Reiki manual I had started months prior, which languished half-done in my computer. As my symbolic act, I set aside a whole day to get it finished, which I did.
THE NEXT DAY I got a phone call offering me some temporary work, starting immediately. It was with an organisation I had never worked for before, but through a series of connections, they got my number and reached out. Money started to flow in AND I had a completed manual.
If you are in the habit of leaving things unfinished, perhaps, like Florence suggests, you may be seeing that lack of completion manifest in other areas of your life. Pick your symbolic act of completion, and see what happens.

p.s. After shuttering my home-based holistic therapy practice, which I ran out of a spare bedroom of my house, I discovered that scary incident with the male client was a blessing in disguise. I vowed never to work with clients in my home again, so I got myself online and devised a way to work with clients virtually, which turned out to be much better, and is the way I work with clients to this day. Perhaps the universe has thrown you a curveball which later became an advantage. I’d love to hear about it.
