“Expectation is a focus with a vibration that permits the receiving of what you’re focused upon, and you expect things both wanted and unwanted. ”
Abraham-Hicks
I’ve written about the Spiritual Law of Expectation several times and never felt I did the subject justice.
My favourite story about this law is what I call the Baby Carriage Parable, which I read about in Larry King’s book, Powerful Prayers.
Essentially, the parable is about two childless couples who seek the aid of a miracle-working wise man. The sage prays for both couples to conceive, yet only one couple does. The reason? The couple with the newborn bought a baby carriage in the expectation that their prayer would be answered.
The profound simplicity of this story touches my heart. I wish it was taught in every school around the globe.
What are you praying for? What are you wishing for? What are you trying to manifest? Do you expect it to happen? Really? Do you expect it to happen so much that you are willing to “buy the baby carriage” – so to speak – in anticipation that what you are asking for is on its way?
When I wrote the story of how I manifested my soul-mate and husband, I shared how I EXPECTED to meet and marry my soul-mate. I bought and read wedding magazines. I window shopped for my engagement ring. I imagined wearing the ring.
I’ve also shared stories about how I’ve expected failure in my life, which I’ve then experienced.
I can tell you that positive expectation is by far the more pleasurable path.
In medicine, this phenomenon is observed in the placebo effect. Someone expects a sugar pill is going to heal them and it does. The opposite nocebo effect is almost scary.
I keep this quote in my inbox at all times: “If there is an emotion that you are wanting to foster, that would serve you very, very well, it is positive expectation.” Abraham-Hicks
I would like that add to that piece of advice and suggest that it’s not only the emotion of positive expectation – which you could call “faith” – that you want to foster, but it is also the action that matches your positive expectation. The couple in the parable bought a baby carriage. What is your equivalent action?
