I listened to a great Super Soul podcast with happiness expert Shawn Achor this week. You may have watched Shawn’s famously funny TED Talk or read his book about his research on the transformative power of quick, daily positive habits.
For example, one study with the National MS Society showed that people with MS who journal about a positive experience for two minutes per day for six weeks, decrease their pain medication by 50% after six months!
The study I found most striking is that people who read only three minutes of negative news in the morning are 29% more likely to report having a negative day six to eight hours later. Negative news is transforming the course of our day. Multiply that by 365 and you’ve got a negative year, etc. That’s enough to make me not want to read my daily email from The New York Times, which I skipped this morning.
I encourage you to listen to the podcast yourself. You’ll learn about the quick positive habits he recommends, the negative habits he doesn’t recommend, and the reason he does NOT want you to cut negative people out of your life.
If you decide to follow his advice, I’d love to hear which positive habit you picked and what happened in your life as a result.
