I read a great story in Pam Grout’s amazing creativity book about how Mary Karr, author of The Liars’ Club, prayed to what she called “the subtle bastard” as a last resort – and only at the insistence of her AA sponsor – for help with her life and writing career.
Then things started happening, like:
- she received a $35,000 writing award from The Whiting Foundation that she hadn’t applied for,
- she met a literary agent,
- she got her first book deal three days after submitting a book proposal to her new agent.
She credits her success to prayer and encourages others to give it a go. “To skeptics I say, just try it. Pray every day for thirty days. See if your life gets better. What do you have to lose?”
What do you say? Want to try an experiment? Pray every day for thirty days and let me know what happens as a result.
